We took it easy the first day and got everything in place. In the evening it was finally time to go and see Bourak and Lahjal and give them food! It was dark by the time we got there but it was still very nice to see them again. We’re quite sure they recognized us and were happy to see us.

After the feeding we went to a restaurant with Ahmed in the tourist zone. This was the first time me and Mike have been in this area. We had no idea it existed up until a few weeks back when we started to look for hotels for our families and friends that (hopefully) will come here for the festival 19-22 December.

Believe it or not but in the morning the day after it was raining. It stopped around midday and the air felt very fresh.

We had some tea with Ahmed and his friends at his shop in the evening and just relaxed and talked about our upcoming trip.
We have decided to go out in the desert with a 4×4 car. Ahmed knows a very good driver, Fathi, and he’s going to take us to Timbaine and back in his car. There is a 2 day music festival at a place called Camp Mars that we’re planning to go to. We’re really excited to go out in the Sahara desert again.

In 2005 me and Mike drove from Sweden to Benin in our Land Rover Defender 90, this is when we got some land in Ghana where we ended up staying for about 6 years and built our guesthouse, Desertrose lodge, but that’s a different story. During this trip we drove in the desert and it was a lot of fun to go in the dunes, we loved it and are looking forward to do it again.

We woke up to a beautiful morning and decided to take our bikes around Douz. We went through the date palm plantations and eventually ended up at the H’naiech stadium where The Sahara International Festival Of Douz will be held in December. We went inside to have a look. Last time we were here in March it was very windy and the sand made it impossible to see it properly. Now it was a blue sky and we could see the seats that will be full on one side and the Sahara desert on the other. It was a special feeling to stand there and think about why we’re here in Douz.

We went to some of the hotels to have a look and they were very nice. They will probably fill up the closer to the festival we get, so make sure to make your reservations soon 🙂
