After breakfast we drove to ”the lake” which is an oasis in the Sahara desert. About 50 years ago they tried to drill for oil here, instead they found water and it’s now a constant flow of hot water coming up from the ground. We had some lunch and then went to sit down in the hot water and enjoy a Swedish beer. There were a lot of cars and people there but it was still nice to see it. Me and Mike found a nice spot to camp between some dunes a bit away from everything. We spent the night here and continued our journey the morning after.
At the oasis
On our way we met some people that had problems with their car. Lucky for them Fathi had the sparepart that they needed, what are the odds?! We had a very nice drive in the dunes and stopped for lunch at the foot of Mount Timbaine. We walked up to the top of the mountain and the view was fantastic!
After a short drive we reach the place where we were going to stay for two nights, Camp Abdelmoula. When we parked the car everything felt so quiet and calm, it was a beautiful place with some big tents that you could rent and a big restaurant, the outside sitting area was really nice with a lot of carpets and cushions and a firepit in the middle. You could really tell that they care about this place.
We found the perfect spot to put up our tent. It was on a platform high up on a dune with dunes surrounding it like a shelter, we couldn’t wish for a better place to stay.
We found one ski and Mike decided to try if it was possible to ski down the dune. It didn’t really work so he ended up sitting down on it and somehow sliding down. We played around in the sand for while and just enjoyed the tranquillity in the desert. In the evening we sat down by the fire and watched while they were making the sand bread in the hot sand in the fire and listened to a man playing the flute. We had a very good dinner at the restaurant before going to bed.
