Everything is going so quickly forward!
Mike has put down all the insulation in the bottom, attached the wood and laid the chip board floor in one of the flats.
I’ve prepared all the flexible conduits for the electric cables for the flat.
Uptstairs I’ve continued with the painting off walls and windows.
9/12-27/12
Wow, time flies! During the last few weeks a lot has happened!
I’ve finished painting upstairs in the livingroom/kitchen.
Mike has cut the last bit of the frame and lowerd it. It’s now insulated, prepared with the electrics and the chip board floor is in place.
When he started to cut the plasma cutter stopped working. Luckily he’s not scared to open up machines to fix them 🙂 after that everything went smooth.
It’s been really high water here the last days. My parents were here for Christmas and the water was so high it was impossible to walk on the gangplank so Mike had to fix it before they came.
Last night it was the highest we’ve seen this far. The water was almost up at the jetty level.The gangplank was to short all of a sudden and didn’t reach down to the jetty so we had to pull it up with ratchet straps to save it from braking. There was a big storm in many parts of Sweden. Luckily we got the wind from the right direction so the wind didn’t affect us that much.
I’ve prepared for the reinforcement that will be around the windows. I’ve scraped of some of the foam so Mike can weld the reinforcing steelbeam to the wall.
Mike has built the frame where the new walls will be, so now it’s a lot easier to see the space of the flats. He has also figured out how we’re going to attach the ceiling in the flats.
We’ve had a minor set back…..
Vilde is leaking!!!! Well, not anymore but she was a few days ago.
We’re quite sure it happend when Mike cut one of the frames that there was a lot of tension in. She’s hit something before so she’s got some dents. When he released it there was a snap and something split open.
One day I saw a drop of water on the floor. We thought we just spilled something and dried it up. The day after it was there again.
We went to the shipyard just around the corner and asked what we should do. Of course it was difficult for them to say when they didn’t see the boat. We agreed to contact them again in spring to decide if we should lift her up in the shipyard and have a look. The reason we had to wait is that they have rented out their small dry dock to one of the companies constructing in Gothenburg until March.
We waited a few days and then decided to try to find the leak. We went and bought something called “stay afloat” which is an emergency leak sealant that can stop a leak temporary. We preparde the bilge pump (just in case) and then Mike started to cut in the foam.
The water came up slowly and we managed to follow the stream and eventually found the leak! When Mike removed one piece of foam the water started to come in. It was a tiny jet from a tiny hole, not bigger than a toothpick. Unfortunately it was under the waterline so there was some preasure. Mike put some of the sealant and it stopped immediately.
Then we had a lot of work ahead of us to remove all the foam that was wet underneath. At the end we had to remove 9-10 m2 of the foam but now it’s dry again, I dried the rust patches with a heatgun so I could paint them with the rust preventing paint.
Now we’ll leave it open for a while to see there are no more leaks.
All is well now! Back to work tomorrow 🙂
28-30/12
Today we went and got the steel that we’re going to use for the reinforcement around the coming windows. We painted them with the rust preventing paint, so now we have to wait until tomorrow to use them.
Mike cut the first “knee” so we can get the reinforcement inbetween in one piece.
Now Mike has fitted the reinforcement around two of the windows. It looks really strong and good!
We also got the underfloor heating and the WC macerator pumps that we ordered.
Tomorrow we’re going to Jan, Sanna, Edvin and Alice to celebrate New Years Eve. That means there will be no work on Vilde tomorrow but we’ll be back with updates next year!
